in Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Cell Biology
Department of Biology, University of Western Ontario
Biotechnology of Soybean and/or Alfalfa
Both positions will be focusing on gene expression in one of two plant systems, soybean or alfalfa.
In soybeans the research will focus on transgenic plant production and assessment of genetic expression of a variety of bio-products.
The research in alfalfa will work to promote the nutritive value of this forage crop, through genetic discovery and the development of biotechnological resources.
Both positions require excellent performance in academics at the undergraduate level. Experience in a research facility for plant molecular biology or biotechnology would be an asset.
Students will work within a broad program in molecular biology and biotechnology with collaborators across the country at the Southern Crop Protection and Food Research Centre, an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centre. This state of the art facility is located in London, Ontario a 10 minute drive from the University of Western Ontario campus. Students will be accepted through the University of Western Ontario and enrolled in the Department of Biology. Students would be expected to undertake normal departmental duties such as Teaching Assistant positions.
