The Office of the Registrar at McMaster University is seeking an individual to fill the position of Web Administrator/Desktop Specialist. Under the direction of the Associate Registrar, Systems, the Web Administrator/Desktop Specialist is responsible for web administration, desktop computer support and web and application server support in the Office of the Registrar. The incumbent will possess the essential technical, diagnosis, and customer service skills required to work in a dynamic and diverse environment. Along with the essential skills, the incumbent will have comprehensive problem solving skills and demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, combined with the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of the computer systems and Office of the Registrar team. The incumbent will work closely with all areas of the Registrars Office leading the development and administration of the day-to-day operations of the Registrars Office web and applications servers, as well as overseeing the content management for the department web pages. The incumbent will also provide desktop support involving installing, uninstalling, diagnosing, evaluating, maintaining, configuring, and providing instructions on a wide range hardware including PCs, laptops, local and network printers, hard drives, monitors, keyboards, backup units and other computer devices as required. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with the Computer Systems Managers and University Technology Systems (UTS) to integrate University and external systems utilized by the Office of the Registrar. The incumbent should have experience with installation, maintenance and troubleshooting web and application servers. The incumbent should also posses a broad knowledge of operating systems, programming languages and hardware installation and maintenance. In addition, the incumbent should have specific working knowledge of SQL servers, MS Office Suite, desktop publishing software, Netscape, HTML and XML development tools, Dreamweaver, Windows NT, 2000 and XP. The ideal candidate will have completed a 3 year diploma or degree in the subject area of Computer Science or a related field, with at least two years working experience in systems and web administration. (Equivalent education or work experience will also be considered).
