Large Animal Clinic, Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital
Temporary full-time from September 2007 - October 10, 2008 Temporary absence of regular incumbent
The incumbent will be accountable for a variety of duties and responsibilities which include: feeding, cleaning, watering, milking etc. all teaching, research and client animals in large animal housing, in accordance with all Hospital, University, Provincial (OMAFRA) and Federal (CCAC) guidelines. Observing, reporting and recording unusual symptoms in hospitalized animals, restraining animals in order to assist faculty, staff and students; daily grooming and exercising; operating trucks, treadmill, cow tilt table, farm equipment and forklift to transport animals, feed and other supplies; helping with security of the facilities and the animals; checking facilities and equipment and reporting building problems; assisting faculty or Veterinary Technician on duty with animal admissions (operate animal squeeze chute), rolling an animal, picking-up a down animal, moving animals to surgery, helping set-up for induction and recovery of surgical animals, and moving animals to Post-mortem. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements of the position include: a College diploma in Agriculture or Animal Care Certification would be an asset as would related large animal handling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a Large Animal Clinic would be an asset; ability to work alone but should also have good communication skills and be willing to work along with other hospital staff and faculty. Will be required to train on different equipment and meet safety standards on the day-to-day operation of the OVCTH. Class DZ license will be required. Be able to cope with shift work and take responsibility for decisions/actions. SHIFT AND WEEKEND WORK IS REQUIRED. Proof of protective rabies titre is required.
