Five young men accused of flooding out a residence at the University of Regina and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars damage have been charged with mischief.
The five, ranging in age from 18 to 27, are scheduled to appear in court on March 3.
The charge, announced Thursday, relates to an incident on Dec. 19, 2007, in which an indoor fire hydrant pipe was opened up around 2.30 a.m. in a stairwell at the university's south residence tower.
That set off the fire alarm and triggered the building's sprinkler system. Dozens of students were sent out into the cold night.
The release of thousands of litres of water flooded four floors of the residence, resulting in what is expected to be more than $200,000 in damages, according to the police.
Four of the men charged are from Regina while one is from Balgonie, 30 kilometres east of Regina.
